Natural Light
Golden Sun Reflector Portrait
Lighting setup
A low back sun creates warm separation while a reflector returns controlled light into the face.

Use the sun as a rim. Shape the face with bounce.

White Fill Natural
Switch the gold reflector to white for a cleaner, less warm face while keeping the same back-sun rim.

No Reflector Shadow
Remove the reflector and expose for the rim; the face drops darker, proving the bounce is the real key light.

Silver Punch
Use silver from the opposite side for brighter catchlights, stronger cheek shape, and a crisper editorial finish.
Final look

Base setup
Backlighting protects the face from squinting and turns the sun into a beautiful hair rim. The reflector becomes the actual key: gold warms the skin, white stays natural, silver adds punch, and removing it shows exactly how much the bounce is doing.

Fixed ND
With scheme: light ND (2–3 stops) can tame noon sun so reflector fill does not fight clipping on skin.

Key notes
- 1Put the sun behind the subject first; the reflector should shape the face, not fight direct sun in the eyes.
- 2Feather the reflector upward from below chest level until the catchlight appears without making the face look underlit.
- 3Gold bounce is flattering at sunset but can go orange fast; use white when skin tone needs to stay neutral.
- 4Watch the background exposure separately: the rim can clip before the face looks bright enough.
