Speedlight Bounce Reflector Fill Event
Lighting setup
The lesson is the fill tool: a bounced speedlight establishes direction while a reflector or bounce card opposite the key opens the shadow side at weddings and receptions.

Bounce the key. Let the card finish the face.

Ambient Only
Kill the wall-bounce speedlight — face falls into warm reception ambient so you see what the bounce flash was buying.

No Reflector — Bounce Alone
Drop the handheld reflector. Wall-bounce flash still keys the lit cheek; the far cheek and eye deepen about one stop. That is what the card was buying at the reception — not a second flash.
Final look

Base setup
Event photographers often have a great wall bounce but still lose eye sparkle on the far cheek. A handheld reflector or white card returns enough fill to hit 2:1 without a second flash, keeping the kit minimal and fast.

Key notes
- 1Lock your wall bounce first, then add fill — never the other way around.
- 2Silver fill is punchier; white is safer on varied skin tones.
- 3Angle the reflector to catch the bounced beam, not the bare flash spill.
- 4An assistant holding the card beats a floor bounce in crowded rooms.
