Direct sun is a small hard source; placing diffusion between sun and subject enlarges and softens the effective light. The lesson is distance and angle of the scrim relative to the subject, not just owning overhead frames.

Key notes

2Keep the scrim between sun and subject — if sun hits the face directly, the scrim is in the wrong place.
3Closer scrim = softer; farther = harder but still diffused.
