Mood variations

Reflective Umbrella
Swap to a reflective umbrella at the same angle — hotter catchlights and more cheek contrast without moving the light.

Black Card Shade
Hold a black card off the shadow side to deepen contrast and add shape — still one light, no second strobe.

Window Light Only
Turn off the flash — a large window at front-45° gives a similar soft wrap with zero gear.
Final look

Base setup
A shoot-through umbrella close to the face is the cheapest flattering portrait recipe. Swapping to reflective adds punch; a black card off the shadow side adds shape; a window at the same angle proves you can learn the look before you buy a flash. Scheme and 3D show placement — the photograph stays clean.

Key notes
- 1Stand the subject on grey seamless — no stool, no furniture in the catalog frame; waist-up crop keeps the lesson on the face.
- 2Shoot-through umbrella close off-frame camera-left (~0.7 m) for soft loop light; modifiers never appear in the photograph.
- 3Compare reflective umbrella on the tab — punchier catchlights, same angle, more cheek contrast.
- 4Black card off the shadow side deepens contrast without a second light; window tab shows the zero-gear version.
- 5Use Scheme and 3D for umbrella placement; the hero teaches the finished look only.
